Maria 5B4AQB – Team leader

Hey there! I’m Maria, 21 years old. I graduated from university this year with a degree in Commerce, Finance, and Shipping. I started my journey in amateur radio in 2020 when I got my license, and my passion for it has grown ever since. Last year, I proudly represented Cyprus at the YOTA Camp 2023 in Hungary. I also enjoy taking part in events like the YOTA Contest and the International Field Day every year. I am a volunteer at the SupportCY team of the Bank of Cyprus and have been playing volleyball for 12 years. I also love astronomy, which continues to fascinate and inspire me.

Antreas 5B4AQA

My name is Antreas and my callsign is 5B4AQA. I graduate from Cyprus University of Technology as an Electrical Engineer. I work at MSelectronics as a support/sales person and I really love my job. I am a volunteer at the SupportCY team of the Bank of Cyprus where i get the opportunity to actively help society. I got involved with Amateur Radio in 2020 thanks to 5B4APB as we shared another common hobby, Amateur Astronomy. At the time he was the CARS youth coordinator and did a great job recruiting me. I have now taken over the role of youth coordinator for CARS. I have a passion for nature and technology, thus seeking to combine them both, and what a better way to achieve that through POTA and SOTA. I am looking forward to build a portable/emergency hf station for this purpose. I am also amazed with satellite communications especially QO-100 and the International Space Station. Contesting is something that excites me every time. I participated in various contests and some of them are field days, ILLW, CQ WPX and YOTA. I participate in YOTA Camp 2023 in Hungary, Györ and I look forward to participating in YOTA Camp 2024 this year in Czech Republic, Prague, thanks to our sponsors, Bank of Cyprus and MSelectronics. Their support is crucial for the Cyprus YOTA team.

Giorgos 5B4AQU

I am 27 years old. From a young age I discovered the existence of amateur radio, but was unaware of that an active and organized Society existed in Cyprus. When I started my university studies in 2017, I joined my university’s ham radio club, but I never obtained my license because of my degree workload. Upon completing my studies, I discovered CARS when I read an article online about the Nicosia club activities during the International Lighthouse and Lighthouse Weekend 2022. So, I joined CARS, but I would have to wait until 2023 for the ham radio HAREC exam to take place. I finally obtained my license and callsign 5B4AQU. Since then, I have been participating in group activities such as supporting the Larnaca and Limassol marathons, as well as local meetings and visits organized by the Limassol club. I am mainly interested in HF communications where I am given the opportunity to talk to other radio amateurs abroad.

Throughout the entire YOTA Summer Camp, daily news will be posted. Keep an eye out on @yotacyprus Instagram and Facebook channels, as well as the official YOTA Social Media pages on Instagram and website.

Feel free to share these updates on your own social media platforms, spreading the enthusiasm and promoting amateur radio.

We are looking forward to a successful YOTA Summer Camp Czechia 2024 ahead!
